IBM Ships Regatta
IBM Corp’s new flagship Unix server is nowreadily available. IBM said Friday its p690 “Regatta” server is available inthe channel for customers.
Regatta isIBM’s first server to use its Power 4 processor architecture. Power 4 crams twoprocessors, memory cache, and I/O controllers onto a single chip for better SMPperformance.
Like IBM’smainframes Regatta has partitioning capabilities enabling it to run as many as16 partitions with AIX or Linux. It also shares fault-tolerance features withthe mainframe like redundant memory modules and system logging. – Chris McConnell
