QlikView 8 Updates In-Memory Business Intelligence

Targets actionable analytics, collaborative analytics, mass user deployment, and mass document deployment

QlikTech today launched QlikView 8, which offers expanded personalization and visualization features as well as enhanced collaborative and deployment capabilities. The company says the product features are centered in four areas: actionable analytics, collaborative analytics, mass user deployment, and mass document deployment.

In the actionable analytics area, QlikTech says strategic business intelligence needs to include improved predictions through what-if scenarios when budgeting and planning, then save the results for future comparisons. QlikView 8 can create placeholder fields that hold data in memory and edited and distributed across aggregations.

"Our existing QlikView 7 applications provide a wealth of historical data, but QlikView 8 will allow users to do forward-looking analysis and compare different scenarios with a few clicks," said Steve Hunt, vice president and CIO at SI International, in a QlikTech statement. "Our managers will be much better able to understand the future implications of today's decisions."

The company says that collaborative analytics is provided by private and shared document objects, bookmarks, and reports (QlikView Server serves as a central hub for managing shared objects), and the sharing of locally developed analysis on local servers.

With a familiar goal of providing the right users with the right information at the right time, QlikView says version 8 streamlines mass deployment through simplified server requirements, simplified deployment of the AJAX and Java clients, and a Web services interface to QlikView Server.

Massive deployments are handled by simplified administration of QlikView reports, accomplished by synchronizing releases of QlikView Server and QlikView Publisher and “providing direct access to QlikView Server and QlikView Publisher-managed documents within the QlikView client,” among other features.

Data visualization has also been improved. “Users can display results in more than two dozen colorful chart format styles -- from ‘funnel’ and Pareto charts to heat maps -- and with multiple ‘gauges’ for improved information management,” the company says, making it easer to see and understand results.
