Symantec, SafeStone Bolster iSeries Security

Extending a partnership the two companies share in Europe, security providers Symantec Corporation and SafeStone Technologies have reached an agreement to position an integrated offering for IBM eServer iSeries customer.

Under terms of the deal, Symantec and SafeStone are teaming sales and support staff to bring to market a solution that integrates Symantec’s vulnerability assessment and intrusion detection technology with SafeStone’s detection functionality. The combined offering is intended to allow companies to monitor their security policies on iSeries.

As part of the agreement, SafeStone’s DetectIT is being interfaced with Symantec’s Enterprise Security Manager and Intruder Alert. In bringing these pieces of software together, Symantec and SafeStone provide iSeries users the ability to centrally administer multiple operating systems, including UNIX, NetWare and Windows NT, as well as iSeries. Using predefined corporate security policies, the joint solution is designed to facilitate the monitoring and measurement of security throughout the whole enterprise.

Currently, DetectIT is the only third-party product integrated with ESM for iSeries to be supported by Symantec.

"Symantec is committed to providing customers security solutions that span multiple platforms. Enterprise Security Manager and Intruder Alert are best-of-breed security solutions that until now were only available for our customers using Unix, NetWare and Windows NT/2000," said Gail Hamilton, executive vice president, Symantec Product Delivery and Response. "Symantec's partnership with SafeStone allows our customers using the IBM eServer iSeries to confidently expand their use of ESM and Intruder Alert across their complex network environments."

The solution, which is available globally directly through the Symantec and SafeStone sales forces and through designated channel partners, represents the next step in an ongoing relationship according to the companies.
