Adero Pulls StarBurst into Its Orbit
Adero Inc., a provider of global content distribution services for e-business, has agreed to acquire Concord, Mass.-based StarBurst Software, a company dealing in simultaneous and guaranteed content distribution. Holders of sufficient shares of capital stock of StarBurst Software have already agreed to vote in favor of and approve the merger. Adero expects the merger to be consummated on or about March 30, 2000, subject to closing conditions.
The combination of Adero and StarBurst will enable distribution of video, audio, Web content, graphics, financial data, pricing, reports, databases, promotional materials and software applications to tens of thousands of distributed devices in the time it takes to distribute to one using traditional Internet content distribution methods.
Adero will embed StarBurst's Omnicast and Autosync Software into Adero's GlobalWise Network and Services for content and applications distribution and e-commerce. The StarBurst Software services enable Adero to deliver content and intelligence via any IP network, regardless of whether it is through the public Internet, a satellite or wireless RF network, or any combination thereof. Customers will be able to simultaneously distribute time-critical content with guaranteed delivery under their direct control. In addition, the network monitoring and reporting functionality supplied by the Adero GlobalWise Service gives customers the performance and management information needed to continuously improve their content distribution and e-commerce services to customers globally.
StarBurst Software has over 100 customers including General Motors, Ford, Chrysler, Wal-Mart, Kmart, The Gap, Rite Aid, Choice Hotels, Promus Hotels, Optimark, Nomura Securities, Thomson Securities, Microsoft and WebTV Networks, Inc., Dow Jones, Bridge Information Systems and Weather.com.
