HP, Genuity Strike Win2000 Hosting Alliance

HP and Burlington, Mass.-based Genuity have forged an alliance to deliver hosted e-services to enterprises and service providers. Under terms of the deal, HP will become Genuity's primary hardware provider for Windows 2000-based Web hosting services and a new sales channel for Genuity's managed hosting services. The new alliance aims to capitalize on the growing market for managed and custom hosting solutions, which, Forrester Research claims, could reach almost $18 billion in U.S. revenue alone by 2004.

HP and Genuity also plan to create new solutions in key markets, such as B2B private exchanges. These solutions will make use of HP infrastructure, services, and consulting along with Genuity's E-Business Network Provider platform. The Genuity platform combines best-of-breed Internet access, managed hosting, and value-added services, including VPNs (Virtual Private Networks), security, and VoIP (voice-over-IP).

Genuity also posted some other news, announcing that its revenue in the second quarter of this year grew 62 percent over revenue for the same quarter of 1999. This was the first quarter Genuity reported as a public company, after having completed a $2 billion IPO.
