SilverStream Supports SOAP
SilverStream Software Inc. (Billerica, Mass.) today announced its B2B integration server product family, xCommerce, now supports information exchanges using the Simple Object Access Protocol (SOAP) 1.1 reference specification. xCommerce will now be able to interoperate with any other SOAP-compliant server to receive SOAP-formatted requests, execute "behind the firewall" Web services and deliver SOAP-formatted responses.
SOAP provides an open standard for accessing business services and permits enterprise systems to exchange data directly. During SilverStream's SOAP certification process, xCommerce successfully performed real-time integration of SOAP-formatted business transactions with relational databases, CICS transactions and AS/400-based business applications.
"To succeed in emerging electronic markets, trading partners need flexible alternatives for delivering Web services that integrate existing systems and processes without disruption," says Fred Holahan, vice president and general manager of SilverStream's B2B Solutions Division. "We believe that SOAP will emerge as an important interoperability standard, and we intend to support it actively in xCommerce. xCommerce permits open, interoperable standards such as SOAP to be used as the foundation of B2B transactions."
