IBM and Intel Join Forces to Support Growing ASP Market

IBM and Intel Corporation announced an agreement to jointly bolster the Application Service Provider (ASP) market. The two companies will collaborate to support independent software vendors (ISVs) that want to migrate to an ASP business model, and develop Web-hosted applications on the Intel Architecture-based IBM eServer xSeries.

This agreement will focus on extending the capacity of IBM's existing ASP Prime program, allowing more ISVs to receive business and technical assistance to move their applications to the Internet more quickly.

ASP Prime, IBM's flagship program for helping ISVs prepare their applications for the Web, gives software developers access to technical consulting at solution centers located throughout the world. In addition to consulting, the centers offer a wide array of software, hardware, and tools to help ISVs ready their Web applications for hosting environments. IBM's ASP Prime program also provides ISVs business consulting before, during and after they use the ASP Prime Solution Centers and ASP Prime services. IBM currently has 10 ASP Prime Solution Centers worldwide that offer business and technical consulting.

Recruitment of ISVs and other activities under this collaboration will begin immediately. Expansion of current ASP Prime Solutions Centers and equipment will commence in 2001.
