Vanguard Integrity Professionals (Orange, Calif.), a provider of z/OS Security Server (RACF) and mainframe security solutions for the IBM z/OS environment, has announced the acquisition of Systems Software Group (SSG, Victoria, Canada), a security software developer. The result of the acquisition is the creation of Vanguard Victoria Labs, a research and development laboratory dedicated to the development of advanced information security technologies.

Vanguard Victoria Labs will be headed by former SSG President Joe Supple. "As SSG, we've been creating advanced security technologies here in Victoria for the past 2-1/2 years," says Supple, whose new position is director of research for Vanguard Victoria Labs. "Now, as part of the highly respected Vanguard team, we will be able to take these technologies to the next level."

Victoria Labs will focus on the development of multi-platform, distributed solutions, including products for Internet and Web-based security, HP, Sun, Windows NT and 2000, IBM AS/400 (now the e-server iSeries), and other distributed platforms.

"A tremendous synergy exists between SSG-developed technologies and Vanguard's existing products for the large-systems market," says Ronn Bailey, Vanguard chairman and chief technology officer. "With very minor modifications, we will be able to quickly roll-out a whole series of integrated security solutions across the enterprise."
