Compaq and Sun Microsystems Agree to Open SAN Standards
Compaq Computer Corporation has agreed to work with Sun Microsystems Inc. and HighGround Systems Inc. to advance Open SAN standards and drive interoperability. This will enable networked storage solutions supplied by either company to interoperate in an open networked storage environment.
Compaq has held an equity position in HighGround Systems since December 1999. Compaq also licensed certain SRM technology and worked jointly with HighGround on various SAN management products. Compaq will continue to offer SANworks Storage Resource Manager (SRM) products based on HighGround technology. As a result of Sun's announced acquisition of HighGround, Compaq and Sun are now exploring ways to work together in the area of expanded storage networks management.
