VERITAS Software Delivers Certified SAN Tape Drive Sharing Solution with HP

VERITAS Software has teamed its enterprise storage area network (SAN) software backup solution, VERITAS NetBackup Shared Storage Option, with HP’s network storage to provide a solution that supports heterogeneous SAN backup and management. VERITAS and HP have fully tested and certified heterogeneous support for LAN-free backup using VERITAS NetBackup Shared Storage Option, the SAN-ready storage solution operable on both UNIX and Windows NT.

"The certification of VERITAS Software with our world class library technologies complements our overall SAN tape sharing solutions," says Jack Trautman, General Manager, HP Data Protection Division."

Backing up data using SAN topology, LAN-free backup reduces or eliminates backup window issues, improving both backup and recovery performance and network performance. NetBackup, one of VERITAS Software’s LAN-free backup applications, facilitates sharing of storage peripherals via HP network storage solutions. Allowing individual HP tape drives – standalone or in an automated tape library – to be shared among Windows NT, HP-UX and Sun Solaris backup servers, VERITAS NetBackup Shared Storage Option virtualizes tape resources to reduce backup times.

Says Howard Dratler, Vice President and General Manager, HP Division, VERITAS Software, "The combination of HP SAN tape solutions with VERITAS NetBackup Shared Storage Option ensures that customers can reliably implement tested SAN configurations within their heterogeneous SAN environments at all levels."

Throughout the course of developing this solution, the VERITAS SAN Integration Lab (iLab) played a key role in leading testing efforts with HP. Working with more than 20 SAN infrastructure, storage and operating system vendors, the VERITAS SAN Integration Lab is generating a variety of pre-tested SAN solutions. To expedite the delivery of a SAN tape drive sharing solution to end users, VERITAS Software performed with HP extensive interoperability testing of their products at the VERITAS SAN iLab. Testing on most major operating platforms, VERITAS Software worked with HP to certify the SAN solution in first-rate testing facilities.
