Dell Checks into Wyndham International

Wyndham International Inc. has selected Dell as its provider of computer servers, notebooks, desktops and related services to help provide hotel guests and employees state-of-the-art technology.

The Dell PowerEdge 6450 and 2450 servers, preloaded with Microsoft Windows NT, will support Wyndham’s mission-critical database applications, linking its 130 hotels in North America and the Caribbean to its corporate headquarters in Dallas, Texas. Wyndham has also standardized its corporate offices and each hotel on Dell wireless-ready Latitude C600 and C800 notebooks, and Dell OptiPlex GX150 small form-factor desktops, all preloaded with Windows 2000 Professional.

Wyndham says the Dell agreement is an important part of its strategy to utilize top-of-the line technology throughout its hotel network. "We are the first national hotel brand to offer high- speed Internet access in every one of our hotel rooms. This year we will be adding new technology and applications at each property to enhance the guest experience and increase our operational capabilities," says Mark Hedley, Senior Vice President and CTO at Wyndham. "A critical element of this strategy is to have reliability and consistency in our IT infrastructure, which Dell offers."

Each hotel will place its Dell orders through the corporate offices, which will then volume purchase the equipment through its customized Dell online Web site, PremierDell.com. Wyndham will order its software, peripherals and hardware through this centralized site containing its standard prices and configurations. Dell’s Asset Data Service, offered through DellPlus, provides asset tagging to help Wyndham’s headquarters know what assets it has, where they are, what’s on them, their age and licensing needs.
