EMC Expands Relationship with Sony

EMC has expanded its relationship with Sony B & P Company (Broadcast and Professional Company) Japan. Under a new OEM agreement, Sony Broadcast & Professional Company will offer an EMC CLARiiON-based storage system with its new XPRI Digital Content Creation System.

The new Sony nonlinear editing systems, designed for use in professional and broadcast environments, provides digital editing features, including support of high definition TV. The EMC system will be marketed by Sony B & P Company as the Sony Fibre Channel Storage Unit (DMW-ST001).

"Sony's goal is to position XPRI as a core digital content creation platform, compatible with a wide variety of different applications, from content creation to distribution, by adding application modules from Sony and third parties," said Ichiro Segawa, Senior General Manager of the Network Production Systems Division at Sony's B & P Company.

EMC has worked with Sony for the past three years. The relationship includes EMC Data Manager (EDM) enterprise information backup and recovery system support for Sony PetaSite mass storage libraries. Sony B& P Company is part of Sony Corporation Broadband Solutions Network Company.
