Varsity Logistics Looks to Make Shipping Easier for iSeries Shops

Varsity Logistics, a developer of shipping solutions for iSeries environments, has released the 2.1 version of its ShipPack offering enhanced with the ability to integrate with ERP systems in a more functional way.

Part of Varsity’s supply chain execution suite for small package shipping, ShipPack is designed to help shippers efficiently prepare parcels for delivery. The 2.1 release adds parcel nesting capabilities, pick-list management tools, and a two-way ERP system interface to Varsity’s existing solution.

With ShipPack’s new parcel nesting features, shippers can better determine how to fit parcels together in a package to maximize the amount of merchandise attached to a pallet. The pick list management tools format information in Varsity’s supply chain suite, ShipSoft, so it matches the format from ERP-generated pick lists. And the new ShipPack interface uses the pick lists generated by the ERP system to build the pick ticket details so the orders can be packed correctly. Since the interface runs in real-time, shipping information flows into the system when the order is being packed, and back to the ERP system, which helps ensure accuracy.

Designed to eliminate error in the shipping process, ShipPack provides shippers information about the contents of each package, including description, size, weight and a description of the merchandise. Armed with this information, ShipSoft – the supply chain suite – can precisely track and trace the whereabouts of a package. In addition, ShipPack helps shippers avoid the costs of routing guide violation and consignee penalties by providing order information on barcodes, labels and packing lists. Upon request, ShipPack also can generate advance ship notices in EDI format so information can flow into ERP and other necessary systems along the supply chain.
