MLB Advanced Media LP (MLBAM), the interactive media and Internet company of Major League Baseball, Sun Microsystems Inc. and iPlanet E-Commerce Solutions, a Sun-Netscape Alliance, have announced significant increases in traffic to MLB.com, the official Web site of Major League Baseball.
MLB.com is one of the most visited sports-related Web sites, providing access to all 30 Major League club Web sites, coverage of over 2,400 games, statistical and historical data, media coverage, ticketing and fantasy leagues. In June alone, over 38 million people visited MLB.com, marking a jump of 52 percent from May. This translates to some 108 million page views, an increase of 21 percent.
The site is powered by iPlanet and Sun Microsystems hardware, software and service offerings. Sun provided MLBAM with hardware, including Sun Enterprise 4500 and 6500 servers, and Netra 1125 servers; storage products, including the Sun Storedge 3500 array; and Sun software including Java technology, and the iPlanet platform which includes the iPlanet Application Server plus the full suite of integrated servers for Web hosting, calendar/scheduling, directory services and e-commerce management. Sun Professional Services worked with MLBAM to architect and build the site platform infrastructure.
