HP Announces Midrange Unix Server
Hewlett-Packard Company announced a mid-range UNIX server -- the HP Server rp8400. The company hopes the new server will extend its reach into the midrange market.
The rp8400 runs on HP-UX 11i. It can use up to 16 PA-RISC 8700 processors. According to the company, the new server delivers 140,240 tpmC based on the TPC-C benchmark and has Internet performance of 15,000 connections per second based on the SPECweb benchmark. The server also recorded a SPECjbb2000 performance result of 118,547 operations per second.
The HP Server rp8400 is currently available. Pricing starts at $124,000.
