Sybase Unveils New Integration Tools
Last week, Sybase Inc.rolled out a new version of a product it acquired with New Era of Networks.Business Process Integrator 2.1 is its first release since the acquisition andoffers new features to aid integration.
Business Process Integrator (BPI) is a server-side setof connectors for bridging between applications in the enterprise. Sybase billsit as a means to build business processes linking information betweenapplications, legacy systems, and business partners.
One of the most notable new features is BPI’s supportfor Web Services standards, such SOAP, UDDI, and WSDL. The software can takelegacy applications and offer them on the network as HTTP services, opening thedoor to new kinds of integration. In addition, enterprises who want to shareinformation with partners can use the product to publish information in ebXMLor RosettaNet.
To integrate systems, users do not need to learn ascripting language. Instead, BPI uses a GUI interface to help users createbusiness processes. Joe Santos, senior product marketing manager at Sybasesays, “We have metadata-reading capabilities that put that [customization]right on the broker.”
Santos believes that BPI is an ideal solution for manybusiness interested in integrating systems with a partner. “You need a stronglayer of integration, and we provide that,” he says. – Chris McConnell
