GoldenGate Touts Global Data Synchronization

GoldenGate Inc. this week announced version 7 of GoldenGate, its flagship data synchronization software platform.

GoldenGate is a global data synchronization software platform that captures and securely migrates “changed” data to internal systems or across wide area network (WAN) connections to diverse data environments such as DB2, Oracle, HP NonStop SQL/MP and SQL/MX, Enscribe, Sybase, Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL, Teradata, and IMS / VSAM.

Because GoldenGate supports data replication on a global scale, the company says that it used to support initiatives such as business continuity, disaster recovery, data center consolidation and integration, system migration, application integration and active data warehousing.

GoldenGate 7 includes a bevy of new features, including sophisticated conflict detection and resolution capabilities, along with revamped high-speed data loading facilities. In addition. GoldenGate 7 boasts 128-bit encryption of data that’s synchronized between internal systems and over WAN connections.

Other new features include support for the open source MySQL database, along with native, log-based capture capabilities for Sybase databases.

GoldenGate 7 ships with a new Web-based Activity Console, a GUI environment that provides a real-time view of all data synchronization functions. The upshot, company representatives say, is that customers can now get an accurate idea of data movement latencies, volume levels and system balancing requirements in real time across their diverse platforms.

Microsoft Unveils Business Portal

At its Convergence 2003 conference for business customers, Microsoft Corp. last week announced its long-awaited Business Portal.

The product was developed by Microsoft Business Solutions (MBS), a unit that comprises the packaged ERP software that Microsoft acquired from Great Plains Software and Navision, as well as the company’s new Microsoft customer relationship management software.

Microsoft positions Business Portal as a means to help companies deliver Web-browser access to MBS applications, which include CRM and supply chain management (SCM) components. Because Business Portal provides canned integration with these and other Microsoft applications, the software giant claims that companies can increase their business efficiency and reduce their IT and support costs by exposing information and processes to employees, customers and suppliers with relatively little effort.

Business Portal is the first MBS application that leverages Microsoft’s .NET Framework, integration that the software giant says enables a security-enhanced, role-based business portal environment that can also be extended to deliver access to external data sources and Web-delivered applications.
