Briefs: HP Enhances HP-UX, .NET Testing Tool

Updated HP-UX more reliable, offers better Oracle interoperability; Parasoft's .TEST 1.0 automates.NET class testing, builds test cases

Hewlett-Packard Co. last week announced a revamped version of its HP-UX operating system.

The company says its new HP-UX 11i v2 boasts augmented reliability, availability, and serviceability features, including support for single system availability and memory resiliency.

The revamped HP-UX also exploits HP technologies—such as the HP-UX Partition Manager, along with HP’s Serviceguard clustering and Workload Manager software—to extend the virtualization capabilities of HP’s Itanium-based systems. The new release also boasts enhanced interoperability with the Oracle9i database and Oracle Corp.’s Real Application Clusters.

HP-UX 11i v2 features complete data, source, and binary compatibility with previous versions of HP-UX 11i for Itanium and HP’s PA architecture systems. The new version of HP-UX also offers source compatibility with Linux IA-32 programs and binary compatibility with Itanium-based Linux programs.

Concurrent with the announcement, ISVs including I2 Technologies and Check Point Software—plus 23 other vendors—announced plans to port their applications to the new version of HP-UX.

New A/D Testing Tool for .NET

Parasoft announced .TEST 1.0, a unit testing tool that automatically tests classes developed for the Microsoft .NET Framework.

Parasoft says that .TEST 1.0 automates the testing of .NET classes and eliminates the requirement for developers to write test scenarios or stubs.

.TEST performs a complete range of static and dynamic testing on .NET Framework assemblies. It can enforce over 200 industry-respected coding rules that verify code construction and reduce the possibility of introducing errors into applications.

The product also tests code construction and functionality by reading code and determining how to unit test it. .TEST provides detailed coverage information for both Intermediate Language (IL) and Source Code (SRC) statements, maintains code integrity through automated regression testing, and works with any programming language that targets the .NET Framework, including Microsoft Visual C# .NET, Visual Basic .NET, and managed Visual C++ .NET.
