IBM Entices Customers to zSeries
IBM announced it will offer customers significant new incentives—including dramatically reduced software license costs and zSeries rebates—to move non-traditional mainframe applications
Last week, IBM announced it will offer customers significant new incentives to move non-traditional mainframe applications (including SAP, Siebel and other applications) to zSeries.
As a potential carrot, IBM is offering customers dramatic reductions in software licensing charges, along with rebates on zSeries hardware. IBM says a typical mainframe customer running a 1,000 MIPS SAP application on a z990 mainframe could save more than $750,000 in z/OS software charges over a two-year period.
But that’s not all. By late October, Big Blue says that it will extend the availability of its On-Off Capacity On Demand technology to customers using its Integrated Facility for Linux (IFL). The upshot, says IBM, is that customers running Big Iron Linux can now temporarily turn on additional capacity to handle spikes in demand—just in time for the busy holiday shopping season.
