Network Associates Puts Up Shield Around Microsoft’s SharePoint
Network Associates launches comprehensive security package for Microsoft’s new SharePoint portal server and associated tools
Network Associates has launched a comprehensive security package for Microsoft’s new SharePoint portal server and associates tools.
Named PortalShield, the package includes McAfee ePolicy Orchestrator to add policy management and enforcement, rapid deployment, and distribution of the latest virus definitions.
McAfee PortalShield scans documents and Web documents for viruses and banned content. Each time a document is written to or read from the document libraries, the McAfee PortalShield software scans the content and compares it with a list of known viruses and suspected virus-like behavior. McAfee PortalShield also scans for content within the document using the rules and policies defined within the McAfee PortalShield software. No prices were given.
Using McAfee PortalShield rules, document download and upload actions can be prevented, and alerts sent to the administrator if the documents contain banned content, including sensitive information or offensive behavior. Administrators can also avoid bandwidth degradation by blocking non-business related files, such as MP3 or AVI files.
Microsoft also decided to bundle SharePoint Services free with the Windows Server 2003 operating system. This allows co-operating workers to create a secure collaboration area on a Web site so team members can share data, documents, and files.
