Sonasoft Updates Recovery Solution for Microsoft Exchange Server

SonaSafe Exchange Solution provides dynamic backup and granular level recovery capability

July 12, 2006 -- San Jose, California -- Sonasoft Corp. announces the availability of its new version of SonaSafe for Exchange Server. This release contains many advanced features including dynamic e-mailbox backups, enhanced replication, and recovery capability.

Sonasoft provides a high-availability solution, protecting data from hardware/software failures and human errors. SonaSafe application maintains the redundant, standby server by continually updating the data with that retrieved from the primary system. The standby system can take over instantly in the event of primary system failure. The standby system can be on-site, or located at a remote site for protection against natural or man-made disasters.

Today, backup of e-mailboxes over 2GB in PST format on the Exchange Server level is impossible because of the limitation inherited in the E-mail Application Programming Interface (MAPI) which generates PST files. Dynamic e-mailbox backup incorporates automatic splitting of e-mailboxes with sizes over 2GB. Also, the complete backup of e-mailbox has to be taken only once and then only the incremental backups need to be taken. This is great feature which reduces storage costs tremendously. If an e-mail or folder is lost, all it takes is point and click and recovery will occur in seconds. Enhancement to the Sonasoft replication functionality includes transferring of remaining e-mail messages that have not been committed when the switchover from primary to remote replicated server occurs. User permissions and all other relevant information are also transferred automatically to the replicated server when the switch over from primary to the replicated server happens.

“With the increasing importance of Microsoft Exchange Server as a platform for Messaging and Collaboration and Government laws regarding data access, it’s imposing a big challenge on IT administrators to keep and retrieve e-mails on a more frequent basis and at the same time make Exchange Server available 24x7. Sonasoft’s SonaSafe solution helps IT in achieving those goals in a manner where either the whole Information Store or a single e-mail is recovered with the click of a mouse”, noted Bilal Ahmed, VP of engineering and CTO at Sonasoft.

Key benefits to customers include:
