Buffalo Ships First 3TB NAS for Small, Mid-Size Enterprises

New TeraStation Pro II uses four SATA drives, supports multiple RAID levels

Buffalo Technology today released a 3TB version of its high performance NAS devices. The TeraStation Pro II (TS-H3.0TGL/R5) is designed for the small and mid-size business user and is currently available in 1-and 2-terabyte models.

The company says its TeraStation Pro II is the industry’s fastest single NAS devices in its class available today. The drive incorporates a high-speed processor for fast data transfer rates (up to 38 MB/s), which Buffalo Technology says is comparable to a USB 2.0 hard drive.

“We have witnessed some significant trends in both the consumer and business markets. Consumers are going beyond having an individual system in their homes to having a full-blown network. Businesses, on the other hand, are deploying more complex networks,” said Morikazu Sano, senior vice president of global sales and marketing at the company.

Designed for the SOHO or SMB, the TeraStation Pro II includes UPS compatibility so it can power down safely and prevent power failure. The device consumes minimal power, and administrators can set group or user-level security. The TeraStation Pro II includes four serial ATA hard disk drives for better data transfer speeds and Active Directory Support (this allows the drive to utilize domain users and groups). Drives can be configured in several RAID modes (0, 1, 5, and 10), and hard drive performance is checked continually.

The drive is compatible with Windows and Macintosh operating systems. It includes two USB 2.0 ports for connecting additional external USB hard drives when expanded networked storage or additional backup destinations are needed.

The drive uses a 10/100/1000 Base-T Gigabit Ethernet port and Gigabit Jumbo Frame capability for higher transfer speeds than standard Gigabit networks. Memeo Autobackup backup software is included for Windows users; the software runs in the background and automatically backs up files from a user’s PC.

The device is backed by a limited one-year warranty and toll-free round-the-clock technical support. The drive is available now for an estimated street price of $2,499 and is available exclusively through VARs and Buffalo’s Web site (http://www.buffalotech.com).
