IODF Explorer Version 3.0 Released

Features include new comparison and reporting capabilities

NewEra Software has released version 3.0 of IODF Explorer, a product for managing the hardware configuration for IBM z/OS.

IODF Explorer creates blueprints , worksheets, and reports to help users gain insight into the relationship between "logical properties and their physical counterparts," the company said in a press release.

When running in the Image Control Environment (ICE), IODF Explorer can access its inspection features to ensure the integrity of z/OS configuration. It also includes Partition Inspection capabilities that help pinpoint available logical partitions (LPARs) and related hardware names. Partitions can be inspected after a quick request.

Other features in version 3.0 include the Group Compare function and Partition Compare. The Group Compare function tracks the generational changes between different IODFs, and lists them in a single panel. The Partition Compare feature analyzes changes at the partition level, useful for identifying shared resources among LPARs.

Version 3.0 also includes new reporting features such as the Processor Utilization Report and Operation Manager's Report. According to a release from NewEra Product Manager Bob Mancini, the Processor Utilization Report "remove[s] all the guesswork, making assignments clear and easily understood" while the Operation Manager's Report helps in z/OS initialization.

"Knowing the exact OS configuration they are attempting to initialize is critical to operations managers," Mancini said. "They need to know exactly what is being IPL-ed. These new reports can help them to avoid costly, time-consuming delays."

IODF Explorer is available as a standalone solution at $5,000 for one CPU. For more information, go to http://www.newera.com.
