CA Technologies has released CA ERwin Data Modeling r8, its solution for visualizing and managing data from multiple sources across and beyond the enterprise.
The new version of CA ERwin features visualization tools that help data modeling professionals represent the increasingly complex and diverse attributes of business data that is managed in multiple systems, applications, platforms, and locations -- and, with the proliferation of cloud computing, even by different organizations.
Advanced data model visualization capabilities allow users to present and share these complex data attributes with disparate development teams, technology partners, and business users. This eases collaboration across internal and external constituencies so that the design of database-based applications can be optimized for both technical performance and alignment with business requirements.
CA ERwin r8's extremely flexible personalization allows different team members to fully tailor their desktop workspaces to their individual assignments, skills, and needs without sacrificing the integrity of shared modeling parameters.
The result is that CA ERwin r8 customers can more successfully optimize database performance, help ensure adaptable re-use of information assets, better manage the impact of business and technology change on active applications, and more rigorously safeguard compliance -- even as they move to cloud computing and other XaaS implementation models.
CA ERwin's new model formatting options allow users to customize colors, fonts, backgrounds, and other elements -- giving their model diagramming the flexibility of a drawing tool, with full data modeling functionality. CA ERwin's new Display Themes also allow users to create standard formatting themes for reuse among teams and projects, so they can create a common look-and-feel to cross-model efforts. This can be especially useful as customers engage with multiple outsourcers, XaaS providers, and other partners for multiple projects.
The new version of CA ERwin also features embedded SAP Business Objects Crystal Reports integration that enables users to more easily track impact analysis, where-used reporting, and cross-model queries across the enterprise.
In addition, CA ERwin's support for DB2 z/OS and LUW v9.x has been extended to ease use of partitioning, global temporary tables, compression, nicknames, column "labels", XML datatypes, query optimization syntax, and more.
CA ERwin Data Modeler is a key component of the CA ERwin Modeling family, which offers an integrated set of technologies that enable best practices for database design and modeling.
