Symantec Corp. has released Symantec O3 Cloud Identity and Access Control, the first layer of its cloud information protection platform that protects the cloud. (The other two layers, for information security and information management, will be released at a later date.)

Symantec O3 Cloud Identity and Access Control provides companies with a single, secure access point to cloud applications and services. According to a recent Symantec survey, 44 percent of CEOs said they were cautious about moving business-critical applications to the cloud, with 76 percent citing security as a main concern. Symantec O3 establishes a security control point for the cloud, enabling organizations to apply consistent identity and information security across all cloud services and devices.

“Companies want their employees to be able to take advantage of cloud services, but they also want to be confident that their critical information is protected as it flows in and out of the cloud,” said Francis deSouza, group president, Enterprise Products and Services, Symantec. With Symantec O3, companies can achieve consistent identity and information protection across all cloud services and devices.

Symantec O3 Cloud Identity and Access Control enables single sign-on (SSO) across any Web application, including those that do not support federation protocols. It leverages an enterprise’s existing identity infrastructure for authentication while enabling context-based authorization, password management and federation services. It comes pre-integrated with Symantec Validation and ID Protection (VIP) service, enabling enterprises to leverage their existing VPN tokens to strengthen access to any SaaS application.

Symantec O3 Cloud Identity and Access Control is available now. Symantec O3 may be implemented as a hosted, on-premise, or hybrid model, depending on customer needs. More information can be found at www.symantec.com/O3.
