SQL Server 2008 R2 SP2 Released
Main issue addressed: format problems with SQL Server reporting services.
SQL Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 2 is available for download, Microsoft said today.
The release fixes minor issues, and little seems to have changed since Microsoft first offered a test preview of SP2 in May. Microsoft lists one new addition in the service pack, which improves the "dynamic management view" function. These views "return server state information," according to an MSDN library article description.
SP2 keeps several editions of SQL Server 2008 R2 up to date, including the Parallel Computing edition to the no-cost Express edition. Microsoft's release notes, available here, explains which file users should download. Alternatively, SP2 can be obtained from the Microsoft download center.
SP2, available at no cost, contains cumulative updates 1-5 from the first service pack plus additional hotfixes. As previously reported with the beta, the main issues addressed by SP2 include fixes to format problems with SQL Server reporting services, as well as a batch file caching problem.
