Talend Works with Hortonworks To Support Apache Storm

In partnership with enterprise Hadoop vendor Hortonworks Inc., Talend said its Big Data integration platform will support a preview version of Apache Storm.

The Storm analytics computation project improves upon the batch-processing capabilities of Hadoop, targeting real-time processing of large data streams. Talend said Storm is "ideal for ingesting streaming data that is changing rapidly, such as financial transactions, machine-sensor output, and Web click-streams, and enabling real-time responses that can have a massive impact on the bottom line."

The Hortonworks Web site says ,"Storm in Hadoop helps capture new business opportunities with low-latency dashboards, security alerts, and operational enhancements integrated with other applications running in their Hadoop cluster." Hortonworks recently became the first major enterprise Hadoop distributor to go public through an initial public offering of stock.

The Talend 5.6 platform, which uses graphical tools and wizards to generate code to process data from diverse, multiple sources from within Hadoop, also supports the Apache Spark extension, which uses in-memory technology to improve upon the original MapReduce component of Hadoop. Talend 5.6, introduced last November, also supports Apache Kafka, a "fault-tolerant, publish-subscribe messaging system" that can be used with Storm for analyzing and rendering streaming data in real time.

"With faster data integration solutions such as Talend 5.6 and Apache Storm, users can run their analytics more quickly for real-time decision-making, helping them achieve competitive advantages that they just weren't able to do before," said Talend exec Ashley Stirrup in a statement. "For many businesses such as online retailers and financial services providers, the availability of high-quality data that can be immediately acted upon can be the difference between making a sale and losing a customer."
