MAPICS Provides Point.Man for Supply Chain Management

Joining the ranks of vendors competing for dominance in the Supply Chain Management (SCM) market, MAPICS has announced the release of Point.Man Extended Enterprise Edition, a product designed to connect customers, suppliers, distributors and partners over the Internet.

Point.Man, geared primarily toward manufacturers, is designed to provide secure thin-client, appliance-independent connections through the Web to a manufacturer's ERP system. It serves both information access and transaction processing functions, and is customizable for specific customers, partners or employees.

"MAPICS' Point.Man product improves on typical EEA models by providing data security down to the field level," says Linda Brooks, MAPICS' VP of extended enterprise solution. "In the new e-business market, where data is shared directly with customers and value-chain partners, content-sensitive security is a critical element of the solution."

The product uses XML and Microsoft DNA Architecture, which allow the system to retrieve and process XML data sets at high speeds. User can connect to the system via laptops, PDAs, and other remote devices, and MAPICS applications run on AS/400, NT, Unix and Linux.
