FullArmor Workflow Studio Automates Windows Data Center Management, Provisioning

Provides PowerShell-based, drag-and-drop administration

FullArmor today released FullArmor Workflow Studio (WFS) to automate complex, time-consuming Windows data-center provisioning and administration with the help of scripts. No code is needed for IT departments to “mix and match Windows PowerShell scripts with workflow technology to manage Windows applications, virtual machines, Active Directory, Group Policy, and more,” according to a company release.

"Extensible command-line interfaces and technology for defining, executing, and managing workflows are powerful tools for automating datacenter tasks, but they require significant knowledge and manual effort to use," according to David Williams, research vice president at Gartner, Inc. "Products that make these two infrastructure technologies easier to understand, operate, and integrate, have the potential to significantly reduce IT operations management costs"

To automate such complex IT tasks (such as provisioning Active Directory, Group Policy, Microsoft Exchange, and Virtual Machines), WFS employs a graphical console to make it easy to workflow-enable Windows PowerShell scripts using drag-and-drop actions. Using the WFS Console, an administrator can create a workflow that automatically performs multi-step systems management tasks; the company says WFS makes it easy to place scripts created with PowerShell, Windows Command, Visual Basic, and Java Script into a workflow (sample workflows are included).

To further simplify workflow creation of common tasks, WFS includes predefined capabilities for several Microsoft applications and infrastructure components, including:

  • Active Directory

  • Group Policy

  • Exchange 2007

  • Microsoft IIS

  • SharePoint

  • Windows Vista

  • Windows 2008 (Longhorn) Server

  • Windows Virtual Machine

  • Systems Center

  • VMWare ESX Server

"PowerShell can dramatically reduce IT operations workloads through automation," said Danny Kim, CTO of FullArmor. "By simplifying the creation and re-use of PowerShell scripts and integrating these with a workflow engine, FullArmor Workflow Studio brings enterprise-class provisioning and management capabilities, usually associated with the mainframe, to the Windows platform." Pricing starts at $295 per administrator. More information is available at http://www.fullarmor.com.
