IBM Unveils New Pre-Engineered Technology Services Model

New approach cuts transformation time by over 60 percent, accelerates ROI.

IBM has updated its services portfolio to streamline the way it designs, deploys, and manages clients’ information technology (IT) infrastructure. Built on over 25 years of experience working with thousands of businesses and governments worldwide, IBM’s next-generation IT outsourcing services deliver a standardized approach that can reduce the time needed to transform a client’s IT environment by more than 60 percent and potentially cut costs in half.

Central to IBM’s new services capabilities is a new set of highly engineered “assets” that integrate process, software, industry expertise, and IBM Research know-how to create reusable building blocks that act as the foundation for IBM’s outsourcing services business. For example, rather than spend weeks or months designing a server configuration from scratch, clients can select from a set of pre-configured assets and be up and running in hours or days compared to weeks or months.

IBM has developed similar assets for storage, networking, and help-desk services. These new assets incorporate IBM’s experience managing the IT environments for more than 1,000 clients in over 400 data centers in 170 countries. Clients will be able to achieve faster time to return on investment and, improved flexibility while freeing up time and resources to focus on other priorities.

IBM’s clients face radically changing business demands because of macro shifts in the marketplace from accelerating complexity and velocity of global expansion. Clients are looking beyond cost cutting; they want to know how to leverage IT into their business to stimulate growth, meet customers’ needs, and prepare for the future. IBM’s standardized approach tightly integrates a client’s business processes with IBM’s services assets to incorporate new technologies such as cloud computing into their business plans.

IBM first began testing the standardized offerings on its internal systems. By deploying its entire storage infrastructure using the standardized asset-based approach, IBM estimates it will lower its storage costs by nearly 50 percent.

By leveraging IBM patented processes, analytics capabilities, and software-infused repeatable tools, IBM’s server, storage, service desk, and network assets can:

  • Modernize a client's service-desk environment and improve end-user response times using 24/7 global support service in over 50 languages

  • Create a unified communications network for global businesses in a matter of days; analytics-based client portals can analyze data for better business decisions
