Dell today announced a new cloud client computing solution to help organizations securely embrace BYOD and consumerized IT across the diverse range of worker scenarios. As employees demand greater freedom and flexibility in how they access their professional resources, Dell Wyse Cloud Client Manager (formerly named Project Stratus) empowers IT departments to cost-effectively offer the experience employees require while helping to ensure corporate data remains secure and business policies are enforced.

Dell Wyse Cloud Client manager offers a cloud-based management option for its thin clients in addition to its on-premise solution. Through a single, cloud-based console, Dell Wyse Cloud Client Manager enables IT to securely manage company- and user-owned devices alongside end-user access to company applications and content without the burden of ongoing solution installation, updates, and maintenance.

To support a broad range of scenarios, the solution delivers capabilities in four core areas: systems management, application and content management, end user self-service, and real-time reporting and alerts.

Systems management and policy enforcement for thin clients and mobile devices: Dell Wyse Cloud Client Manager delivers cloud-based remote configuration and management of Dell Wyse thin and zero clients, on- and off-premise, including those in highly distributed environments such as branch office and home users -- effectively extending visibility and control beyond the corporate firewall. The solution also provides comprehensive over-the-air mobile device management (MDM) and mobile application management (MAM) capability for iOS and Android smartphones and tablets, making it easy to support a BYOD strategy alongside company-owned mobile devices.

Policy-driven application and content management: The solution allows IT to enable remote desktop and content management between mobile devices and desktops or laptops through integration with Dell Wyse PocketCloud software. This integration enables people to have simple, secure access and management of their content on any of their office or home based computers from their supported smartphone or tablet.

End-user self-service portal: IT departments can define end-user rights and permissions based on individual or group membership to help increase productivity and empower users to take an active role in managing their own experience in order to dramatically reduce the burden on IT. Users can register their own devices through the self-service portal for compliant use of corporate resources and see a personalized view of which devices are currently registered, add new ones, and view the policies that govern their use. In addition, they are able to reset system passwords, and in the case of loss or theft of a registered device, locate, lock or wipe the device clean of corporate data.

Real-time reporting, alerts and analytics: In an era when most employees use not only a desktop device, but also a tablet and a smartphone to access and use content, the cloud-based console provides IT administrators with registration and usage information on multiple levels to suit audit requirements. Reports can be generated to detail activity on each device, on a departmental level or individual user, giving IT departments a holistic overview of which resources the employee is using to access corporate resources. Real-time, exceptions-based alerts mean that IT teams can focus exclusively on critical issues affecting the security and efficiency of the computing environment, and the detailed audit trail documents the cause of an issue and any subsequent action.
