SEAGULL Acquires Java Team and Technology

SEAGULL's acquisition of ObjectShare's PARTS for Java delivers to the Atlanta-based provider of developer tools and specialized server software a number of new assets, including an experienced Java development team and advanced Java development technology.

Under the terms of the agreement, SEAGULL receives all rights to the intellectual property for PARTS for Java and predecessor products, along with products currently in development to support Enterprise JavaBeans and legacy code wrappering, according to published reports. ObjectShare Inc. (Irvine, Calif.) is expected to retain the right to independently sell the current commercial versions of PARTS for Java and predecessor products, and continue to provide all maintenance and support to licensees.

"There are two reasons that this acquisition is important," says Frank van Pelt, SEAGULL chairman and CEO. "Number one, we acquired a top-notch Java development lab. Number two, we acquired technology that accelerates our ability to deliver new products for rapid e-business enablement."

Kim Addington, SEAGULL VP of marketing, adds, "Our strategy is to expand our portfolio of software products that help customers combine existing applications with new code to enable rapid e-business innovation in direct response to market needs."

ObjectShare will continue to market PARTS for Java as an IDE, using the organization's technology to "meet the needs of an emerging middle tier of business logic and software services that manage and add value to the interaction between users and back-end systems," according to Addington.
