Intellor Survey Examines XML Trends
A new survey, conducted by Intellor Group and Wilshire Conferences, examines IT’s need to manage structured and unstructed data and how XML is being used as a solution. The report, "XML Database Trends and Influences," was based on survey responses received during the Wilshire Meta-Data Conference and DAMA Symposium held in March. More than 225 attendees participated in the survey. Respondents were asked about their levels of understanding and usage of XML and XML-related technologies.
Key findings from the report include:
Twelve percent of respondents have already implemented native XML databases or plan to implement them within the next 12 months. Thirty-two percent have already implemented XML-enabled databases or plan to implement them within the next 12 months.
In the next three years, most respondents (38 percent) expect a current 90 percent/10 percent split in IT resource allocation between structured and unstructed data managements to drop to more of an 80 percent/20 percent split (23 percent).
The majority of respondents (67 percent) felt that today the convergence of mark-up languages and data management have "No Impact" or "Minimal Impact" on their organization. That number changes significantly in three years with 58 percent of respondents saying it will be a "Key Criteria In Any Decision".
