Inktomi and Dell Offer Caching Appliance
Inktomi Corp. will work with Dell Computer Corporation to offer Inktomi's infrastructure software on Dell's PowerEdge servers.
The hardware and software combination is currently available. The offering, according to the companies, is a caching appliance that will help reduce bandwidth costs, increase availability on critical Web servers and accelerate content delivery. The product is built on Inktomi's Traffic Server Engine and Dell's PowerEdge 1550 and PowerEdge 2550.
Beginning prices range from about $4,500 (1U) to $8,500 (2U).
