IBM Takes Linux to the Enterprise

In an effort to expand its enterprise Linux offerings, IBM Corp. announced that the availability of a series of Linux technologies developed in conjunction with the open source community. IBM announced initial versions of two products: the Journaled File System (JFS) for Linux, a high-performance file system with recovery capabilities and support for large disk configurations and Next Generation POSIX Threading (NGPT) that is intended to improve the scalability of multi-threaded enterprise applications and make Linux conform with industry standards for threading.

IBM also announced that it will join SGI and Open Source Development Lab in the Linux Test Project to develop enterprise test and verification processes, methodologies and tooling for the Linux platform. IBM is currently working with SGI and the Open Source Development Lab (OSDL) to open source the first test suite focusing on customer enterprise workloads.
