Microsoft SQL Server 7.0 Debuts Today
Microsoft Corp. launches version 7.0 of its SQL Server database today. The product will be available through distribution channels by the end of the year.
While Microsoft SQL Server 7 has made improvements in scalability, it still will not be able to compete with IBM and Oracle at the high end of the database market, according to analysts. IBM and Oracle each have nearly 30 percent of the database market. Microsoft, with SQL Server and the single-user Access, has about 15 percent.
