HP Upgrades Changengine

HP has introduced Changengine 4.0, the latest release of its business process management platform. Changengine software enables integration of front- and back-office systems and allows companies to streamline and automate internal business processes.

The new version of Changengine boasts increased performance, out-of-the-box enterprise application integration (EAI), reusability of business services and a new, powerful graphical process modeling tool. The performance enhancements have extended the throughput capabilities for Changengine across the range of HP-UX platforms, allowing the software to deal with hundreds of thousands of process steps per hour. Version 4.0 also features integration with Active Software's ActiveWorks Integration software. The integration allows for point-and-click development of anything from application integration to business process definition. Changengine's ability to create reusable business activities has been extended to provide access to the new features resulting from the ActiveWorks integration.

One of the areas HP is targeting with Changengine is the telecom market. In February, HP announced a service delivery solution for telecoms built upon Changengine and Active's integration software. ActiveWorks features a series of prebuilt Operation Support System (OSS) and Business Support System (BSS) adapters and predefined services solutions, such as DSL. The combination of Active's integration message bus technology and Changengine process management technology is designed to help service providers implement new services quickly, rapidly modify existing services, and improve the quality and efficiency of services through feedback provided by the Changengine process manager. HP recently announced that Portal, provider of the Infranet billing solution, and customer relationship management vendor Siebel Systems had signed on to the service delivery solution.

On March 23, HP unveiled another important partnership involving Changengine—this one with LetsBuyIt.com. LetsBuyIt.com chose HP to provide the infrastructure for new online customer services. The HP solution is built on HP's 9000 N-Class servers running Changengine. Changengine allows LetsBuyIt.com to manage its customer order process end-to-end, from receipt through dispatch. LetsBuyIt.com also uses Changengine for its promotion management process, linking suppliers with logistics partners.

Changengine 4.0 is available now. Prices start at $70,000.
