Tivoli Storage Manager 4.1 will include capability to help users take advantage of SAN technology, Tivoli (Austin, Texas) announced this week at its annual user conference in Philadelphia.
Amy Larsen DeCarol, analyst for Enterprise Management Associates, says Tivoli’s product serves the needs of a growing number of businesses that are turning to SANs as a way to accommodate growing storage demands.
“As storage capacity requirements continue to increase, enterprises are looking for highly scalable systems that require minimal management time from IT directors,” Larsen DeCarol says. “Businesses are fast and furiously seeking applications such as Tivoli Storage Manager that offer faster access to stored data, require minimal backup time and provide uninterruptible storage capability.”
Storage Manager integrates automated network backup, restore and archive, storage management and disaster recovery functions. The product features automated network backup, tape resource sharing, network-free rapid data recovery, LAN-free and multithreaded data transfer and adaptive differencing technology. This technology prevents bandwidth bottlenecks for remote users performing backup and recovery on their mobile devices. In addition, Storage Manager integrates with IBM’s Enterprise Storage Server and EMC’s TimeFinder software which provides online information backup, restore and management capabilities.
Designed for high interoperability, it supports numerous operating platforms including OS/400, Windows NT/2000, AIX, Solaris, HP-UX and OS/390, as well as most popular groupware, e-mail, databases and applications.
