10 New Members Join Business Process Management Initiative
Intalio, a provider of business process management software, has revealed that 10 new members have joined the Business Process Management Initiative (BPMI.org). They are Attunity, bTrade.com, BusinessThreads, CASEwise, Enterworks, eXcelon, HP, Mercator, Sterling Commerce and Sunguard Business Integration. The new members join the 16 initial companies joining BPMI.org, which was founded in August.
The BPMI.org aims to define standards for the management of mission-critical business processes that span multiple applications, corporate departments, and business partners. The organization will generate XML-based standards to support and complement existing B2B collaboration protocols, such as RossettaNet, BizTalk, and ebXML, as well as technology integration standards, including J2EE and SOAP.
The first deliverable of the Business process Management Initiative will be the specification of the Business Process Modeling Language (BPML). Intalio has already delivered a working draft of this spec to members as a platform for discussion. BPML is an XML Schema that provides a standard way to model mission-critical business processes. Intalio hopes that, by covering many dimensions of business process modeling that are specific to processes deployed internally to the enterprise (business rules, security roles, distributed transactions, compensating transactions, exception handling and so on), BPML will bridge the gap between legacy IT infrastructures and embedding B2B collaboration protocols, such as RosettaNet, BizTalk and ebXML.
The Business Process Modeling Language is being designed to enable enterprises to model, deploy, and manage business processes such as order management, customer care, demand planning, product development and strategic sourcing.
Membership to the Business Process Management Initiative is open to all companies, organizations, and individuals. More information can be found at http://www.BPMI.org.
