Solution Soft Tools Frees Up Disk Space for HP e3000 Users
Solution-Soft has unveiled Free Space Manager (FSM), a new tool that monitors and reports on disk volume-set free space in HP e3000 systems. The tool is designed for ASPs, SSPs (storage solution providers), corporate data centers, and other MPE users running storage-intensive applications.
Free Space Manager works in tandem with Solution-Soft's e-Space storage management software to maximize available system disk space and improve overall file accessibility. E-Space online archiving software provides policy-based storage management by automatically and transparently compressing and decompressing files based on the user's predetermined archiving criteria.
Free Space Manager operates with e-Space by working as a background process and notifying system administrators responsible for overseeing disk space volume-set when disk space availability reaches user-specified limits. Free Space Manager then automatically invokes e-Space technology to compress user-selected files and recover usable free disk space. When users request file access, FSM decompresses the files to make them available. Free Space Manager also employs user-configurable "rules" for reporting and recovery operations and for managing multiple volume sets, with unique rules for each set. Free space recovery takes place without system downtime or the off-loading of data to tape.
Free Space Manager is available either separately or packaged with e-Space. If ordered separately, e-Space must already be installed on systems. Prices start at $500 for Free Space Manager alone and $2,000 for a Free Space Manager/e-Space package.
