Dynamic Network Factory Offers Entry-Level Virtual Tape Backup Solution

Hayward, CA -- Dynamic Network Factory, Inc., a leading maker of high-performance NAS, SAN and RAID systems, introduced an affordable line of cross-platform Virtual Tape Library appliances for the hot backup-to-disk market.

Unlike most backup systems, Virtual Tape Library appliances offer superior backup throughput and reliability by using disk storage, avoiding the mechanical complications inherent in the native tape format. Moreover, virtual tape solutions support multiple, simultaneous backup sessions. All this is key in situations where the backup window is narrow, and files must be written in a timely manner for work to continue unimpeded.

Priced at under $2.50/GB, the VTL 8000sa and 4000sa systems are designed for a range of applications, particularly in the untapped budget-conscious workgroup and small to medium business environments. The VTL 4000sa contains 1.5TB of compressed storage space, or 750GB in raw RAID 5, while the VTL 8000sa offers 3.5TB of compressed storage, and 1.75TB in raw RAID 5. Each appliance utilizes high-quality 150MB/s Serial ATA drives, and data integrity is ensured at the controller level with RAID levels 1, 5, or 10. In line with Dynamic Network Factory’s Hybrid Storage Network (HSN™) philosophy, this product features Ultra320 SCSI and copper gigabit Ethernet host interfaces for easy integration into both IP SAN and SCSI environments. The 8000sa, like the 4000sa, is available in a tower chassis, but can also be rack-mounted as a 4U unit.

Interoperability with Linux and Windows environments is assured thanks to the IPStor Virtual Tape Library software package from FalconStor Software, Inc. IPStor transparently manages the internal VTL disk storage, and masks the appliance as an ordinary tape backup library to client systems. For data export and import, or absolute peace of mind, the VTL 8000sa can be fitted with an internal tape drive unit. Thanks to the IPStor software, appliance setup is almost plug and play.

“The VTL 8000sa and 4000sa are effective solutions for all backup needs, from the departmental level to the enterprise, and especially where quick availability, throughput, and low price are desirable.” said Mo Tahmasebi, president and CEO of Dynamic Network Factory, Inc.
