Ingrian Networks Streamlines Database Encryption
New software release automates implementation of leading data privacy solution
REDWOOD CITY, Calif. -- September 27, 2004 -- Ingrian™ Networks, Inc. today announced a new product release that significantly eases the implementation process for encrypting critical data in databases. The latest release of the Ingrian DataSecure™ Platform automates much of the configuration and implementation process and it can now be deployed with complete application transparency -- meaning applications don’t need to be altered to accommodate the changes dictated by encryption.
“There’s a growing trend among enterprises to bolster the security of sensitive data inside the data center by leveraging encryption,” said Jon Oltsik, senior analyst, information security, Enterprise Strategy Group. “However, encryption can introduce a host of costly and time consuming maintenance issues, one of the most significant of which is the work required to modify all the applications tied to the database. By offering a solution that features a centralized, hardware-based security appliance and software that enables automated integration with application transparency, Ingrian offers a very practical way to make encryption work inside the enterprise.”
The new release of DataSecure automates much of the tasks associated with database encryption. DataSecure now features a secure, Web-based user interface that walks administrators through a step-by-step configuration process and, once parameters have been set, it automates the installation of the required software on the database. Once installed and configured, the product dynamically generates all the necessary stored procedures and functions to:
Encrypt and decrypt data on demand from inside the database
Migrate data from plaintext to ciphertext and change the database schema to accommodate encrypted columns
Rotate cryptographic keys
Automate subsequent encrypt and decrypt operations
Authenticate users so that only authorized users are able to access sensitive data
“In just about every Fortune 500 enterprise we visit, executives are keenly aware of the need for our database encryption capabilities,” said Karim Toubba, Ingrian’s vice president of product management and marketing. “In our discussions, it’s also been clear that organizations prefer to do this encryption in a manner that is transparent to associated applications. With this new release, enterprises can now enjoy the security and compliance benefits of intelligent, column- or field-level encryption, and do so with complete application transparency -- which significantly minimizes the costs and administrative overhead typically associated with database encryption.”
The new software is available now.
About DataSecure Platforms
Ingrian’s DataSecure Platforms provide an intelligent, cost-effective way to protect data throughout an enterprise. Organizations can better ensure that they are compliant with legislative and policy mandates for security, and eliminate the risks of data thefts. Ingrian’s breakthrough solution features dedicated hardware appliances and patent-pending cryptography software.
DataSecure offers flexible implementation options so organizations can deploy in a way that makes sense for their business and security needs—whether at the Web, application, or database level. Ingrian Platforms can be efficiently integrated in Windows, Java, Linux, and Unix environments, and they work seamlessly with leading databases—including IBM DB2, Oracle, and SQL Server. DataSecure encrypts data in the database at the field or column level, and can be used to secure such data as credit card numbers, social security numbers, passwords, account balances, and email addresses.
