ScriptLogic’s Service Explorer 2.0 Improves Centralized Management of Enterprise-Wide Services and Scheduled Tasks
Boca Raton, FL – October 4, 2004 – ScriptLogic® Corporation today announced the availability of Service Explorer 2.0. This next generation release gives administrators more control to manage security, enforce regulatory compliance, and quickly track down and solve problems with services and scheduled tasks throughout their enterprise.
Often created for specific purposes such as backup jobs or anti-virus scanners, services are specialized applications that run as background processes on Windows NT, XP, 2000 and 2003 computers. To accomplish their designated jobs, services are often configured to logon with user accounts having full access to the entire network. Good security policies typically dictate changing the passwords to these service accounts on a regular basis - an interactive process that can be very time consuming when performed one service and one server at a time. Service Explorer 2.0 is an intuitive and easy-to-use solution that addresses these time-consuming problems using a one-to-many centralized search and replace approach.
“From a new look and feel to a multi-threaded kernel and extensive new search capabilities, Service Explorer 2 offers a myriad of enhancements designed to target the ‘pain points’ regularly conveyed to us by our enterprise-class customers,” said Brian Styles, CTO and founder of ScriptLogic Corporation.
Service Explorer 2.0 offers many new features that set the standard for centralized, enterprise-wide management of services and tasks. Among the new features of 2.0 are the following:
New User Interface: 2.0 includes an improved user interface with the look and feel of Microsoft Office 2003.
Multi-Threaded Architecture: Service Explorer 2.0 has a multi-threaded architecture, enabling it to carry out search and update operations on many machines in parallel.
Enhanced Search Capabilities: You can now carry out searches across all computers to find services and tasks based on combinations of a wide range of criteria. Criteria can be limited to a scope and combined with four operator types to carry out specific searches and cut through long lists of data from potentially thousands of services on the network.
Manage Service Access Control Lists: On Windows 2000 and 2003 servers, services now have Access Control Lists defining the permissions given to users and groups for different activities relating to that service.
Copy Tasks Between Computers: Service Explorer 2.0 makes it possible to select tasks that are running on one computer, and copy them to others.
