Syncsort Premiers Newest Release of Backup Express

High-performance data protection product offers backup and restore with Instant Availability

Woodcliff Lake, New Jersey, February 8, 2005 -- Syncsort Incorporated today announced that its newest release of Backup Express, the high-performance data protection product, provides backup and restore with Instant Availability. Backup Express 2.3 provides unique agents which work seamlessly with Network Appliance SnapVault technology for fast, efficient disk backup and recovery of both data and applications, including bare metal recovery. Additional advances include increased NDMP support, streamlined usability, enhanced GUI features and the addition of a database agent for Oracle 10g.

Backup Express 2.3 represents the newest in data protection technology and includes Backup Express agents for Network Appliance SnapVault technology for Windows, SQL Server and Exchange. In addition, this release offers Instant Availability for files and applications and ExpressDR (Backup Express bare metal recovery for Windows). Working together with SnapVault technology, Backup Express allows users to use SnapVault snapshots stored on NetApp secondary iSCSI-connected volumes within seconds, without the need for data transfer, and enables live SnapVault backup of Microsoft SQL Server and Microsoft Exchange Server. Backup Express also allows bare metal recovery of Windows primary servers directly from the SnapVault storage volume.

Backup Express’s latest release enables administrators to achieve instant recovery-time objectives, consolidate data for disaster recovery on cost-effective centralized storage, eliminate tape at remote sites, and increase scalability. This new solution uses a block-level-incrementals-forever process that requires less data to be transferred, thereby consuming less storage capacity and using less CPU on Windows primary servers. Other benefits include record-breaking speed, allowing users to back up more often, thereby reducing the risk window; and the ability to easily selectively restore files, directories, SQL databases and Exchange mailbox stores from any point in time.

Backup Express 2.3 also adds to its already industry-leading NDMP support for NAS devices by offering granular browsing for all NDMP backups. Comprehensive database integration includes a certified Oracle 10g agent. Among other new features in Backup Express 2.3 are performance improvements, tape media management upgrades, GUI enhancements, streamlined usability, an enhanced help facility and simpler InstallShield-based installation.

“Companies are looking for data protection that will allow them to easily back up and restore from disk or tape, and the newest technology in Backup Express works with NetApp to deliver an outstanding solution,” says Dan Regan, Syncsort’s senior vice president. “Many of our customers have also been looking for the ability to do a bare metal recovery, and we are very happy to fully provide that feature to them with this release. We will continue to work with partner vendors to extend the capabilities available to our customers.”
