Mainstar Announces Release 6.31 of Catalog RecoveryPlus
Update adds powerful usability features for ICF catalog management
April 5, 2005 -- Mainstar Software Corporation, a storage and recovery leader in the MVS and large system arena, announces several major advances in Catalog RecoveryPlus (CR+), the most powerful ICF catalog management software available for z/OS systems.
CR+ Release 6.31 includes the new DIAGNOSE VOLUME-BCS command, which provides the most comprehensive multi-volume data set support available -- crucial in today’s SMS environment where multi-volume data sets are commonplace.
"With CR+ you can achieve 24x7 data access through user-friendly and effective ICF catalog management," said Ron Ferguson, Mainstar President and CEO. "The enhancements in Release 6.31 highlight Mainstar’s commitment to helping our worldwide customers of CR+ meet their data access challenges now and in the future."
CR+ 6.31 will be generally available (GA) on April 5, 2005 and incorporates enhancements to the following areas:
24x7 Data Access:
CATSCRUB - major new anomaly keywords increase flexibility and power of disaster recovery (DR) site 'scrubbing' of catalogs.
BACKUP/RECOVER DSN - addition of SPHERE keyword, allowing all component parts of a VSAM data set 'sphere' to be included with the base backup.
RECOVER BCS - selective recovery feature has additional keywords to enhance catalog record selection during DR conditioning of catalogs. The MASTERCATALOG keyword now provides an update of aliases in up to 32 master catalogs, for significant benefit when multiple master catalogs share user catalogs. %%SUPERCLIP - provides automatic issue of VARY OFFLINE and ONLINE to all shared DASD systems in a sysplex, eliminating the manual requirement to issue VARY.

Ron Ferguson will present a Webcast on the latest updates to CR+ on April 21, 2005 at 11:00 AM. Additional information on this Webcast and registration is available at http://www.mainstar.com.
About CR+
CR+ provides ICF catalog backup and forward recovery capability, diagnosis, and repair facilities, and significant day-to-day utility functions for effectively managing an ICF catalog environment. ICF catalogs are a critical 24x7 component of every z/OS system, and without a tool such as CR+, it simply isn’t possible to maintain 24x7 uptime for these catalogs.
