TECSys Development Releases Snort 2.3.2 Intelligent Event Module For Real-Time Monitoring

Open-source Snort Network Intrusion Detection Systems (NIDS) monitors traffic and packet logging on IP networks

PLANO, Texas (May 31, 2005) - TECSys Development, Incorporated, a leading provider of device and application event monitoring and management solutions, announced the availability of Snort 2.3.2 Intelligent Event Module (IEM) for ConsoleWorks users. This newest open-source IEM enables users to automate real-time monitoring of the Snort Network Intrusion Detection System (NIDS) to stop serious damage to a company's IT infrastructure. NIDS monitors traffic and packet logging on IP networks and triggers alerts against potential attempts to enter a system.

"Based on our customers need for greater security monitoring of their critical infrastructure we continue to develop easy to deploy security IEM's," says TDi CEO Steven Cotton. "This latest IEM helps protect our customers critical network infrastructure as more and more external security threats become apparent.". The Snort 2.3.2 is the latest IEM needed in order to respond automatically to network attacks and capture the critical information you need for effective enterprise security management."

Snort is an open source network intrusion prevention system, capable of performing real-time traffic analysis and packet logging on IP networks. It can perform protocol analysis, content searching/matching and can be used to detect a variety of attacks and probes, such as buffer overflows, stealth port scans, CGI attacks, SMB probes, OS fingerprinting attempts, and much more. For more information, http://www.snort.org offers material and Snort user groups.

The Snort 2.3.2 IEM provides ConsoleWorks with a watch-list of Snort alerts. ConsoleWorks scans for these alerts, called Events, in the Syslog output of the Snort NIDS. When ConsoleWorks detects an Event, it alerts ConsoleWorks users to the Event, records the circumstances surrounding the Event, and automatically performs the default or customer-configured responses associated with that Event.
