Inxight Offers Customizable Architecture, Integrated User Authentication in SmartDiscovery Awareness Server 5.2

Federated search and alert tool allows single sign-on for simultaneous searches and real-time alerts

SUNNYVALE, Calif., Aug. 22 -- Inxight Software, a leading provider of enterprise software solutions for information discovery, today announced the general availability of Inxight SmartDiscovery Awareness Server(TM) 5.2. The federated search-and-alert solution helps users derive insight and intelligence from hundreds of high-value information sources through a single interface. Alerts and page tracking automatically inform users of new and updated information impacting their business.

In a typical mid- to large-size company, millions of dollars are wasted each year trying to find critical information in the public Web, deep Web (SEC filings, patent databases), subscription sources (analyst reports, medical journals), and internal knowledge bases. SmartDiscovery Awareness Server was created to empower decision-makers in every industry to automatically retrieve relevant internal and external information from a single interface.

SmartDiscovery Awareness Server is preconfigured out of the box to search and track relevant data from more than 600 online and enterprise sources (including multiple search engines), deep Web sources (such as patent databases and SEC filings), public Web sources (such as CNET and MSN Search), subscription-only sources (such as LexisNexis and Dialog), and enterprise systems (such as Lotus Domino and Documentum). Enterprises can also create customized, automated e-mail alerts and brokers to new information sources rapidly, through a point-and-click interface.

The system leverages existing single sign-on (SSO) and authentication schemes to provide secure access to subscription and other password-protected data sources. Open interfaces (APIs), including XML, SOAP, and Web Services, allow for easy integration with existing or new enterprise applications. Awareness Server can service up to hundreds of thousands of users in real time, delivering results to users' requests in seconds.

The Alert module in SmartDiscovery Awareness Server includes the ability to set up e-mail and landing-page alerts based on changes to a specific document or Web page or the appearance of newly available information of interest in deep Web, Internet, news, internal systems, or other sources. Results can be shared with others via e-mail or formatted for printing and reading offline.

Inxight SmartDiscovery Awareness Server offers:

  • De-duplication -- Eliminates duplicate result records from multiple sources.

  • Relevance Ranking -- See documents from a variety of sources based on their relevance to your information needs.

  • Advanced Sorting and Filtering Options -- Sorts and filters results by relevance, date, source, category or other criteria.

  • More Like This" Searching -- Highlight an individual result and the system will automatically find other similar results.

  • Source Suggest -- Suggests new sources to add to your personal search universe based on your queries.

New Product Features

Inxight SmartDiscovery Awareness Server 5.2 includes:

  • Customizable Architecture -- a highly extensible, customizable architecture. Users can edit any or all of the following modules:

  • Source Brokers, Result Analysis, Duplicate Result Detection, Result Scoring, Secured Source Authentication, Alert Result Delivery and Alert Report Generation.

  • Integrated User Authentication -- Now integrated with the Web server's authentication, following Java 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition (J2EE) standards. Users no longer need to manage duplicate user credentials and there is no redundant sign-on/sign-out.

  • Secure Federation -- Works with standards-based and proprietary security mechanisms for access and authentication, solving the "giant indexing" problem in user- and role-based security. (Our competitors' indexing engines have to replicate document-level security in their indexes, which is difficult to synchronize in real-time with changes to permissions in the repositories that are indexed.)

%%Default Search Settings -- Users now have the ability to set default settings for all the advanced search forms in a centralized location. These options are used for both the Custom Search Groups, created by the user, and the default search groups.

  • Improved Alert Management -- Provides a status view of all alerts, including when the alert will next be run, when changes were last found, etc. While the most recent reports are available via the hyperlinks on the Alert's name and last change date, there is now an enhanced history view for each alert that allows you to view the outcome of every execution and past reports.

  • Improved Search Progress Monitors -- User gets more information while a search is in progress.

"Information integration -- the challenge of doing analysis on disparate silos of information -- starts with being able to access the information in each repository without having to create one gigantic index," said Ian Hersey, Inxight's senior vice president of corporate development and strategy. "Beyond this starting point, Inxight delivers the powerful capability of allowing users to be kept aware of changes in the documents of interest to them. All of this is the first step in text-aware business intelligence."
