Ontrack Data Recovery Introduces PowerControls Version 4.0
New software version provides more powerful searching and reporting capabilities along with expanded e-mail system support
MINNEAPOLIS - Nov. 8, 2005 - Ontrack Data Recovery, the industry's leading data recovery provider, today announced the availability of Ontrack® PowerControls 4.0 software, the newest version of its widely used mailbox recovery tool. This upgraded version helps Microsoft® Exchange administrators save time and deliver better recovery performance with more powerful searching and reporting capabilities, and expanded backup format support for CommVault® Galaxy and UltraBac Software.

PowerControls, which earned "Verified for Microsoft Windows XP" status through independent testing, is used by IT professionals to quickly and easily search, copy, and restore message-level or individual mailbox items from any previous full backup, un-mounted databases (.edb), and Information Store files. Requiring no changes to the existing Exchange server or backup architecture, PowerControls slashes restore time, eliminates brick-level backups, minimizes the time it takes to locate all e-mails matching specific criteria using advanced searching capabilities, and eliminates the need for an Exchange recovery server.

New ExtractWizard Agents for CommVault® Galaxy and UltraBac Software: PowerControls 4.0 now offers ExtractWizard support for both CommVault® Galaxy and UltraBac Software backup formats. Now serving a total of nine different backup formats, ExtractWizard helps to restore Microsoft Exchange Server Information Store data from tape and disk backups to any alternate location (e.g., machine, volume, folder), thereby eliminating the need to restore backups to a duplicate Exchange server -- better known as a "recovery server." By providing the fastest method for recovering and restoring messages from CommVault Galaxy and UltraBac, PowerControls makes it easier for users of these popular e-mail backup solutions to meet compliance requirements. Support also is available for Microsoft® NT Backup, Veritas BackupExecT, Legato NetWorker®, Computer Associates® BrightStor ARCServe®, Veritas NetBackup, IBM® Tivoli®, and HP OpenView Storage Data Protector formats.
Advanced Searching: PowerControls searches attachment text for user-defined keywords or phrases. A new "Search In" checkbox allows users to search within attachment text in addition to Message Subject, Message Body, and Attachment File Name(s), allowing them to search any combination.
Reporting Feature: PowerControls now features the ability to create data-store reports that provide statistical analysis (message counts, attachment information, sizes, etc.) on any combination of stores completely offline from the production Exchange Server -- the first product to provide this level of reporting capability offline from the server. Benefits include minimizing the time needed to obtain administrative information on a users account and minimizing the time it takes to obtain detailed account and user statistics.
Public Folders as Target: PowerControls allows the user to open public folders as a target for public-folder or message restores. Users will be able to restore complete folders or individual files from a .pub database to a public folder target. All folder permissions and messages will be transferred to the target folders. In addition, users will be able to copy messages from any database source or search results to a public folder target.
