Ontrack PowerControls 5.1 Released

Latest version extends search and restore capabilities to SharePoint Server 2007

Kroll Ontrack recently released version 5.1 of Ontrack PowerControls, the company's enterprise content management (ECM) product. The latest release is compatible with Microsoft SharePoint Server 2007.

PowerControls 5.1 lets users search for and restore data from their SharePoint database more efficiently than other solutions, according to the company. The tool lets users "granularly restore" data from snapshots or full backups, eliminating the need for a full-site restoration to perform a search. This cuts down on the overall time to restore specific folders, documents and other items.

Another time-saving element in PowerControls 5.1 is the "advanced search feature" that lets users perform searches across databases. Searches can be conducted based on user name, date, subject, keywords, and more.

PowerControls 5.1 also promises to eliminate the cost of maintaining a separate recovery server. Instead, the tool lets users restore right to a file system or to a production SharePoint server.

Jim Reinart, Kroll Ontrack's vice president of product development, praised SharePoint's ECM capabilities but said in a prepared statement that the product's "human management element" often exposes data to risks such as "accidental deletion or improper editing."

He added, "Regulatory and legal demands further reiterate the importance of archiving or restoring SharePoint data. With Ontrack PowerControls for SharePoint, restoration is no longer a technically difficult and involved process."

Pricing begins at $495. For more information, go to http://www.ontrackpowercontrols.com.
