Synology America Corp. today launched the new five-bay DiskStation DS1010+, which boasts write speeds that are up to two-and-a-half times faster than it’s predecessor (the DS509+), including DSM open firmware, expands up to 10 bays, and is specifically designed for businesses with growing storage needs that want an affordable alternative to a PC file server to centralize data backups, protect critical assets, and share files remotely.

The DiskStation DS1010+ offers the performance and flexibility demanded by small to medium sized business users. “The DS1010+ serves an average of 116+ MB/sec reading speed under RAID 5 configuration in a Windows environment, and 103+ MB/sec writing,” says Cheen Liao, president of Synology America Corp. “The Web server responsiveness rate is remarkable, taking only 30.81 seconds to handle 1,000 simultaneous requests.”

With the Synology DiskStation DS1010+, the complexity and high costs normally associated with deploying a complete backup and file sharing solution is removed. One Synology DiskStation can take the place of multiple devices. The DS1010+ can cost-effectively replace PC file servers or other storage devices on the network and smoothly integrate into existing cross-platform environments.

Designed for scalability, the DS1010+ can expand its storage capacity horizontally from 5 bays to 10 bays whenever more storage is needed using the separate DX510 Expansion Enclosure. Using RAID-1, 5, or 6 volume-types, disks can be migrated to larger-sized disks without loss of data. Whether adding additional disks or migrating to larger size disks, the DS1010+ with its companion DS510 provide a total storage capacity of 20TB.

Running Synology DiskStation Manager 2.2, the Synology DS1010+ offers comprehensive business-oriented features and applications:

  • Cross-platform data sharing
  • RAID and Auto-Notification
  • Windows ADS support
  • Network and remote backup including Apple Time Machine® support
  • File sharing and encrypted FTP
  • Mail and Web server
  • DLNA Media Server and photo sharing
  • iSCSI target support
  • Surveillance Station with support for up to 20 IP cameras on the network
  • Web-based interface with mobile phone and two iPhone/iPod applications

Engineered green, the DS1010+ helps reduce IT costs as it replaces other pieces of network hardware (such as old PC servers) by providing many data storing, print server, and sharing features together in one small unit. Compared with its average PC counterparts, Synology DiskStations consume only 68 watts under normal operating conditions, support Wake-on-LAN, and hibernate disks when not in use to further reduce energy consumption.

The DS1010+ has hot-swappable drives, is powered by the Intel Atom Dual-Core Processor D510, and has two Gigabit LAN ports, 4 USB ports, and 1 GB DDRII RAM. With an optional RAM module, the RAM capacity can be scaled up to 2 GB or 3 GB. Backed by Synology’s history of reliability, a 3-year product warranty, and easy management of the DiskStation Manager firmware, the Synology DiskStation DS1010+ delivers on flexibility, affordability, and reliability.

DiskStation DS1010+ is available in both diskless and pre-installed configurations. The DiskStation DS1010+ diskless model is currently shipping in the U.S. and Canada; the DiskStation DS1010+ 5100 (5x1TB HDD) pre-installed is currently shipping in U.S. The DX510 Expansion Enclosure will begin shipping in the U.S. and Canada in March.
